Welcome to Dyslexia Speech & Language

Are you concerned about a child that is underachieving?

You may be a parent or carer who feels that their child is underachieving. You may be a Teacher who knows that a child ‘has a lot going on for him/her’ but still is struggling.

These are typical scenarios with children with a Specific Learning Difficulty (such as dyslexia or dyscalculia) and children with language and attentional difficulties. These children will have a combination of difficulties that require expert observation and analysis to organise into a coherent picture and use the support available in an effective way.

These are children who may be bright and insightful, but who may read with difficulty, not understand what they read, feel overwhelmed by learning, get easily distracted, don’t seem to understand instructions and who often find writing a real struggle.

Dyslexia is a different brain organisation that needs different teaching methods. It is never the fault of the child, but rather the responsibility of us who teach to find methods that work for that child.

Dr Maryanne Wolf,

Education Researcher & Dyslexia Advocate

Dyslexia is not a pigeonhole to say you can’t do anything. It is an opportunity and a possibility to learn differently. You have magical brains, they just process differently. Don’t feel like you should be held back by it.

Specialist Dyslexia Assessments & Interventions

At Dyslexia Speech & Language, I offer specialised assessments and interventions tailored to each individual's specific needs.

My aim is to support and improve communication skills for those affected by dyslexia, as well as address challenges in language, learning, reading and writing, providing support and guidance to improve their educational experience.

I understand that each child is unique, and so I offer personalised support to both schools and families.

Language, Learning & Literacy Assessment

(Reception to Year 2)

Core skill evaluation of how literacy (reading and writing) are developing in the child with specific tests depending on the type of concerns raised.

A school based assessment where the results are discussed with parents and/or school staff, alongside a selection of strategies for intervention that will be explained and demonstrated in detail in video.

Specific Learning Difficulty (Dyslexia) & Language Assessments

The assessments required for a formal diagnosis of dyslexia, as well as additional language assessments, depending on the child’s profile. The assessment process will be normally completed over 2 days.

With the results, I will first create a short report that will include my diagnosis, including a dyslexia diagnosis if there is one.

British Dyslexia Association Approved Report

Formal assessment and diagnosis of dyslexia with full BDA approved report that follows a strict writing protocol and tend to be between 25 and 40 pages long.

Carried out following the Short Report assessment at a supplmenetal cost. This full report enables an application for DSA.
